[24AUG] Bangladesh Civil Unrest Update

  1. The violence and attacks on security forces have subsided and a relative calm is prevailing all over the country.
  2. The curfew has been relaxed from 8 a.m to 10 p.m for people to go shopping and offer their Friday prayers.
  3. Internet connections has been partially restored and there are reports that the fibre optic cable were cut deliberately by saboteurs. An enquiry has been ordered.
  4. The Army is still out patrolling the streets of Dhaka and there seems no immediate plan for them to return to the barracks.
  5. Media censorship is in force and some private TV channels have been asked to exercise restraint.
  6. There are reports of large scale arrest of teachers and student activists but it has not been confirmed by the Government.
